So, they say with each kid it gets easier. I’m here to tell you it does but here’s why. You get smarter. I can now pretty much sniff out the bullsh*t baby products from a mile away. And trust me… there’s a lot of them. Being 3 kids deep, I needed to be on my A-game right from the hospital and in order to do it, I needed to enlist some help. Because ya know, there’s no “I” in team. So I’m here to share with you the products that not only were total game changers, but made me feel like a pro at this mom thing.
When it comes to breastfeeding, I knew I needed the smartest, best of the best products on hand to make this work. With my last 2, I struggled every day to provide them with my milk, but unfortunately was only able to do it for just about 6 months. I cried the biggest and longest tears of my life, both times, because I felt defeated. We had multiple challenges that we faced that ultimately made us only have a short run, but with each baby, including Cason, I went into it expecting the best and prepared for the worst. Luckily there are 2 new products on the market since I had a baby last (2014) that have sent me and Cason down the right path to success. I’m optimistic and convinced that by using these two things alone, we’ll no doubt make it to at least the 12 month mark. 🙌🏻 When I said game changer, I meant it.
Briar Handmade Bonnet | Naturebond Pump | Silverette Nursing Cups | Earth Mama Perineal Spray
SILVERETTE CUPS
The Silverette Cups I had in my hospital bag and started using immediately after his birth. They soothe and protect your nursing nipples using the healing properties of silver. Silver is a natural antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial metal that also contains anti-inflammatory agents. It heals and prevents cuts, wounds, cracks, soreness, and infections. I kid you not, by using these and THESE alone for breast care since day one, I have experienced zero pain. Zero. Meaning like, no soreness, cracks, bleeds, aches, pains or mastitis. They’re 👏🏻 heaven 👏🏻 sent. So they’re a little pricey initially, but when you do the math and calculate how much you’re actually saving by not needing shields, balm or lanolin, they’re the best $60 you can spend when it comes to breastfeeding. Also they NEVER go bad or get old. So if you’re only on baby number 1, you can use them with each kid, making them dirt cheap in the end run.
NATUREBOND MANUAL PUMP
The Naturebond manual pump/milk-saver is literally one of those things that I was like, WTH where was this 5 years ago?! Long are the days of leaking nursing pads. What happens to all of that milk from the unoccupied boob during letdown? What a waste having it all go into your pad. Who really knows how much is being lost into your bra! That stuff is liquid GOLD… we don’t have time for waste! Listen, ever since I started using this “on the other side” during our feedings, I have automatically accumulated over 2 months worth of freezer bags doing nothing. I’ve wasted no additional time pumping. This was literally just from using the Naturebond. Do you see how life changing this is?! I’ve since bought 2 more to have as backups. It’s really easy for me to sometimes fill it just on one side, so I like to have another on stand-by so I don’t have to worry about storage while I’m nursing or at night when I’m not trying to run downstairs to the fridge to empty/bag up the first middle of the night feeding. Just to put it in perspective, I’m able to get 3-4oz per feeding, just from the “extra” letdown that would otherwise go into a pad. That means a few things for me: one, I don’t need to spend any extra time pumping after feedings. 👏🏻 Two, I’m working smarter not harder. 👏🏻 Three, it’s also allowing me to help control my overactive letdown on my good side which is ultimately preventing Cason from choking and excessively spitting up, something I experienced with both of my other boys. So, as if I needed to say more, this thing has been a God send.
HERBAL PERINEAL SPRAY
Now to talk about my healing this time around. I lucked out in delivery aspect of things, meaning I experienced average pain and uncomfortableness afterward. There was one thing that I used that really helped simplify my recovery process and that Is the Earth Mama herbal perennial spray. I literally only used this and the adult diapers the first 2-3 days following delivery and together they worked wonders. I also did just a few Advil here and there, but really wanted to keep things as natural as possible. This wasn’t my first rodeo and I consider myself to have a pretty high pain tolerance, so I didn’t mind feeling some things because I knew it was body in the state of healing. This herbal spray really eliminated my need for the Dermoplast or Tucks the hospital give you. The smell was also super refreshing, so ya know, that’s helpful. 🙃I would definitely recommend giving it a try! I think using this in conjunction with my belly band really helped speed up my recovery. I was back to myself by week 3.
UpSpring Shrinkx Postpartum Belly Band
These few (and cheap!) items, definitely put me on the path to a quick recovery. I can’t believe my babe is just days shy of a month old! Time flies, you guys. I have few of my favorite BABY items that we’ve been using that have definitely helped with his adjustment into our crazy chaotic world of boys. I’ll be sharing those soon!
