Our dining area has slowly evolved since we moved in. Naturally because our little babies grew into messy toddlers, but also because I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted in this space. Not to mention, throwing a kids birthday party twice a year for the first 3 years can be awfully telling. The functionality just wasn’t’ t there, but it sure did look pretty.
Anyway, I think I can finally say I’m getting closer to having it just the way I want.
Metal Bar Stools // Kitchen Runner // Kitchen Faucet
One major change that we made? The lighting.
We swapped out our super-sized wine barrel chandelier for something more modern and open. I’m shocked at what a difference a light can make. This light has opened up this space so much.
We also swapped our pendant lights above the kitchen island for something more clean and modern. I’m not sure they’re making quite the statement that I had imagined, but dang are they pretty.
Room & Board Soren Chair // Room & Board Ventura Table in Walnut (shown with 1 leaf insert) // Ruggable ‘Kavi Diamond Silver’ Rug // Set of Geo Wall Shelves// Mitzi ‘Brigitte’ Chandelier
The biggest change we made was our new dining set. Since we use this area for every meal, I wanted something that was adaptable for our young family. I fell in love with this set from Room & Board immediately and knew it was the answer to my mama prayers. The Soren chairs are easy enough for my boys to get in and out of them themselves, plus they’re pretty fool proof, so if we have any spills or sticky hands, they wipe clean instantly. The table has 2 extensions (this shows us only using one in the photo), so on the occasion we host extended family for a holiday, we can easily add more people around it. Not to mention, Room & Board has a commitment to sustainable furniture and practices, supporting American artisans and raising the bar in the minimum wage fight. That’s something I feel good standing behind.
Our new rug from Ruggable follows suit, making my life that much easier when it comes to feeding the little babes. It’s 100% waterproof, stain resistant and machine washable, making even easier to have a hassle-free household complete with all kinds of kid (and pet) related accidents. If the baby throws his marinara covered spaghetti on the rug, I literally can spray it with water or a little carpet cleaner and it comes right up. This rug is literally an angel sent from above!
Round Wood Mirror // Anthropologie Mango Wood Vase – Tall, Short, Bowl
The other big change we made was changing the paint color on the walls from the Sea Salt that we had for so long to this neutral white called Simply White from Benjamin Moore. Talk about a facelift! The sunlight just bounces off the walls now and makes me so happy.

So, there you have it. Our new dining room. I would say your all invited to dinner, but bad news is I rarely cook 😉
I was given product from Room and Board + Hudson Valley Lighting (Mitzi) in exchange for this post. As always, all opinions are 100% honest and completely my own.
Your room looks great! We’re about to paint our dining room Simply White, but are struggling on the trim color. Do you know what paint you used for the trim work?
