Thank you to Project Nursery, Minted, and Rocky Mountain Decals for providing product for this room reveal.
Originally Cason’s nursery looked something like this. It was clean and tranquil. The perfect mix of neutral and airy. It was a beautiful space to bring our first rainbow baby home to. But, then he grew up. I can’t believe that little nugget is no longer so little, (no really, he’s huge!) and is just 4 months shy of turning TWO. It still hasn’t hit me yet! His personality reminds me so much of both of his older brothers with a bit of that toddler feistiness thrown in to keep us on our toes around here. Third child will not let you forget about them and Cason is here to tell you that!
Anyway, as you can recall from his nursery space, we had a little bit of a Cali cool surf theme going on which I decided was still majorly relevant to who he was and the direction I wanted to take his new toddler room. With the help of this moon-phase removable wallpaper from Rocky Mountain Decals, I was able to keep the original artwork and elevate it to give off more of a ‘big boy’ status. I decided on a small gallery wall above his bed and pulled in a few new art pieces from Minted to compliment the old, in addition to two fun new Etsy finds, the “Pray for Surf” wall tapestry and macrame feather leaf that really helped pull it all together.
Loved that good ‘ol Ikea hack we did before, so of course we made sure to keep them around this time. The Ikea spice racks make for the cutest, toddler friendly book shelves. I turned one upside down to use as a shelf on Kamryn’s side that you can see more of – here. Word to the wise, I hung all of the artwork with command picture hanging strips, which are basically the best way you can go about hanging anything near a two year old. Cason’s already tried to pull at them and I’m happy to report that they haven’t budged a bit.
So sharing a room and truly making it a HIS and HERS space, there were a couple different ways I went about individualizing their differences. To make Cason’s side, HIS, we kept his birth poster, but swapped out the frame color to black to really show off the contrast and make it more masculine against Kamryn’s white frame. The other thing I did was utilize small throw rugs on top of their larger area rug, to really ground the different decor elements. This one I found at Target for under $15 and I think the pattern really leant itself to the rest of the components on his side of the room.
I ended up not really using the changer part of the dresser, so we removed the top and now it’s just drawers that we use for the kids pajamas and diapers. It also happens to be the perfect size for Cason to reach some of his favorite toys. I have their noise machine, the Hatch Rest up there as well. One of my favorite little things that I just couldn’t stand to put away just yet, was his ultrasound print from Baby Blueprint. I may just keep that up until he’s old enough to tell me enough is enough. 😉 You’ll always be my baby, bud.
Cason –
Your love for your sister is so big, I knew you’d have no problem having to look at her girly side of the room for a few years. My hope for you is that this room brings joy, not only from being with your best girl, but also getting to grow up beside her as her big brother forever. I hope this time together and the memories made in this space stay with you for the rest of your life. I can’t wait to watch the endless games you’ll teach her, the books you’ll read together, and the things the two of you will come up with during your imaginative play. I love you to the moon and back, my boy. XO
