A few weekends ago we snuck away to what the boys deemed as “a cabin in the woods” (a little ditty they had going on during the 5 hour drive). It was actually the cutest rustic log cabin in the Nantahala National Forest (near the great Smokey Mountains) in North Carolina and we loved every minute of it. It honestly was just what we needed – a quiet weekend away, full of much needed quality time, beautiful views, and lots of laughs. If you followed along on my instastories, you already saw how absolutely stunning it was just out of the sliding glass doors in our living room. We were absolutely spoiled with views of the snow-capped mountains and lake! I couldn’t get enough.
The “Water’s Edge” cabin where we stayed the 2 nights was so private and quiet — the entire home was large and spacious, absolutely perfect for the 4 of us (+ pup). We loved spending our mornings and nights by the gas fireplace in the living room, playing board games and munching on donuts. The staff had the home fully stocked with anything we could possibly need from dishes to soap/towels, and even had a closet full of kids games, puzzles and a 4moms Pack & Play for those with babies. The attention to detail made it feel just like being in a hotel.
We arrived late Friday night after trekking up some snowy winding mountain roads so we were all thoroughly exhausted. Needless to say, it had been a long day. On Saturday we couldn’t wait to get out and explore so we headed down to the closest town, about 7-ish miles, stocked up on some groceries and had lunch at a local spot, the Hoppy Trout Brewery. The pizza there was SO good and my husband really enjoyed his choice of home-brewed beers. The kids had some fun with their decor and you know no afternoon visit would be complete without some good people watching! It was the best to just chill out and enjoy each other’s company without a single care in the world.
The cabin was right on the lake and came fully equipped with all the things you would need to enjoy it outdoors – kayaks, grill, volleyball net, horseshoes, fire pit and even a jacuzzi on the lower deck. We loved exploring the area near the docks and imagined how amazing it must be to stay here during the summer. It reminded me so much like a summer camp!
We found this gem on Glamping Hub and I’m just so thankful and appreciative for the experience they gave to our family. This getaway was something we’ll never forget! They have so many other cabin options across the United States that are absolutely breath taking in addition to all different kinds of accommodations, like beach houses and yurts. They even have an entire site dedicated to just pet-friendly rentals that make it super easy for you if you’re traveling with a pet in tow like we do. Living in coastal SC, we were totally looking for a mountain adventure this time of year and North Carolina did not disappoint.
Now for all. the. pictures.
Our venture into town…..

Mountain getaways are pure heaven! We all go up to the mountains every year for Thanksgiving, and it’s wonderful. My husband and I occasionally take a couples getaway to the mountains, ever so often.
I liked the photos you posted on your blog. The layout of the area is secluded and peaceful looking. A great getaway for a weekend!
It sounds like you guys had a blast! What a nice area for a little getaway.
Love that town visit with the big fish. This looks like a great rustic vacation and a great way to spend a few days off. This house apppears to have all you need when you go away
That Delsey luggage is everything! Thank you for posting the items from your packing list – also, totally love all the travel photos you managed to take. Beautiful!
I love all the photos of your vacation. It looks like you had the perfect mountain getaway.
I would love to get away from the city. This place looks very relaxing.
That place looks so beautiful. I need out of this city some day.
The cabin looks amazing. My husband and son would love it if we stayed somewhere like this for the weekend.
I would love a getaway like this! Away from the busyness of life and be at one with nature
Staying at a cabin in the mountains would be an awesome way to take a vacay! I like when you don’t have to get a traditional hotel room, this sounds way more fun.
What a relaxing place! This would be perfect for a weekend getaway!
I love going on cabin mountain trips. My friend usually host one annually but right now I opted out and I am in Mexico instead.
The cabin looks really warm and cozy. I dreamed of owning a log cabin in the woods when I was a little girl. This mountain getaway would be as close to making a little girl’s dream come true. Thanks for sharing your photos. I love it.
I live for vacations like this! I would love to have a chance, any chance to escape the urban jungle and have some peace and quiet in a log cabin in the woods. I will let my husband know about this. We really need some relax time. Too much stress is making us ill.
